What: Wakestock 2008, the world’s largest wakeboarding and wakeskating event, in which athletes on boards pulled by a boat perform tricks on absolutely crazy apparatuses set up in the water.

Where: Toronto Islands Park.

When: July 24-27.

Why: To check out the acrobatics and, if that’s not enough for you, to see a concert lineup that includes RZA and GZA of Wu-Tang Clan, Metric and Hot Water Music. There’s also skateboarding, motocrossing and a bikini contest.

How: See the Wakestock pull-out guide in this issue of EYE WEEKLY for details, or check out EYEWEEKLY.com/wakestock.

ACTION ITEMS
TORONTO BICYCLE NETWORK TUESDAY RAVINE RIDES
Every Tuesday beginning at 10:30am, the Toronto Bicycle Network leads rides through park trails across the city beginning at various subway stations. This week’s 30km ride is called “Parallel Lines: Finch to Union Station” and begins at the Finch Subway’s Park and Ride. Free. See www.tbn.ca for more information.

PS KENSINGTON SUNDAYS

This Sunday, July 27, the theme is “Water! Streams of Consciousness.” The website for the street-party organization promises pirates, sailors and fishers to “celebrate the magic of water, water conservation and consciousness — write a message in a bottle, sing sea shanties, take the water challenge.” As usual, the streets will be closed to car traffic and filled with activities and pedestrians from 1-7pm (10pm on North Augusta). See www.pskensington.ca for info.

Toronto Blue Jays second Annual Stitch N’ Pitch
For those who think the missing element from baseball games is that there’s not enough yarn involved, this event encourages people to bring their knitting to the Blue Jays game. The ticket price includes a free tote bag of “needlearts materials” and a $1 donation to the Needle Arts Mentoring Program. Aug. 5, 7:05pm. Rogers Centre. $20. See www.bluejays.com/stitch for ticket info.

THIRD NATIONAL DREAM WALK
This walkathon brings families and friends together to raise funds for seriously ill children and increase awareness about the Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation. The walk is on Sunday, Aug. 10, but teams are encouraged to register now and begin fundraising. See www.starlightcanada.org for details.
