Thank you for your editorial “Recognizing a Canadian Hero” (July 10). I have been on the verge of vomiting as a certain chain of newspapers across Canada has been skewering and spraying their tripe all over the Order of Canada’s recent appointment of Dr. Henry Morgentaler. It was truly a relief to read about his principles and achievements in this sane and glowing way. Thank you again. TAMARA FAITH BERGER
Although it is correct to note that since 1989, our Parliament has lacked the moral courage to pass any law either allowing or restricting access to abortion, it is erroneous to conclude “the question in law is settled” (referendum anyone?). Moreover, there is only a drop of truth in the claim that the abortionist is “a true Canadian hero...” because for others, he is the personification of this generation’s myopic fixation with the culture of death. As to a pregnancy that ends in an abortuary, rather than in a delivery room, I do agree that ironically, it is indicative of “our country’s ethos of growth through immigration.”

Stuff white people sell
Re “Community by the yard,” City, by Chris Bilton, July 10: Yard sales bring to mind a hilarious observation by Canadian urban comic Kenny Robinson. “What is it that white people do on Saturday nights,” he jokes, “that they have to sell their stuff on Sunday morning?” DAVID MAHARAJ
