WHO: Cara Spooner, 24, contemporary dancer (pictured); Rebecca Pletsch, 21, media artist; Ashley Thorne, 21, student.

WHAT: A three-bedroom apartment on the top floor of a converted house near Bathurst and College. The three roommates have been living in the “penthouse suite” since May.

HOW MUCH? $1,400 a month, inclusive.

THE STORY: Spooner likes living close to Kensington Market and cheap bars. “The location is great,” she says “and it has a really big porch.” In fact, the porch is big enough that Spooner and her creative partner Alicia Grant have been holding weekly rehearsals for their upcoming dance performance installation 5x4 there, working with 20 trained and untrained dancers at once. The half-hour piece, which will be performed at CineCycle on Aug. 8, involves each dancer confined in a five-by-four-foot space with a common, household object. Most of the props — such as a chair and pots and pans — are from Spooner’s home. “I’m so excited to see what happens,” she says. “It’s an experiment!”

5x4 runs on Aug 8, 8:30pm. $5-$10. CineCycle, behind 129 Spadina av. For reservations email fivebyfour@gmail.com.
