Who: Meera Sethi, 32, designer, artist, photographer and owner of design studio misc.: meera sethi creative (www.meerasethi.com).

How long? “I’ve been here for about four years and wouldn’t leave if I didn’t have to,” Sethi says. “My space won’t be my space for long.”

What: A 750-square-foot open-concept live/work space in the beloved but slated-for-demo 48 Abell building.

“My space couldn’t really get any better,” says Sethi. “With three massive windows, it’s washed in northern light almost all day long. It’s got high ceilings with exposed pipes that add a tonne of character.” Sethi loves the fact that the space is multi-functional — she rearranges the furniture to suit her ever-changing needs, from photo shoot to dinner party — and she’s devastated about having to leave.

Sethi is unimpressed by the plans to develop over an irreplaceable piece of Toronto history. “They couldn’t build a brand-new space like this one even if they tried,” she says. “This building is probably about a 100 years old!”
